Natural Support for Diabetes
Most Americans that suffer with diabetes have “Type 2”, which we used to refer to as “adult onset” diabetes. Since 1998, when American children were diagnosed with this disease, we now have to refer to it as “Type 2.” This disease is created by poor diet and lifestyle habits. “Type 1” diabetes is much more serious.
It is the overly processed American diet that is responsible for “type 2”, along with a lack of exercise. When we remove most of the fibers, enzymes, pectins and beneficial fats from our food, we are left with foods that make us fat and lacking energy. Then, digesting this dead food becomes a problem and leads to constipation and other disorders. Avoid all white flour and white sugars. Avoid all hydrogenated and partially- hydrogenated fats. These create trans-fatty acids, which are major artery cloggers. Include lots of vegetables of all colors and textures. They will help support circulation and give elasticity to your veins and arteries. Drink plenty of clean water and add lemon to help keep your liver clean and healthy.
There are great multi-vitamin formulas for diabetes. I like “Alpha Betic” or, for more control, Enzymatic Therapy has a product called “Doctor’s Choice for Glucose Regulation.” Some of my favorite herbal aids for diabetes are: spirulina, an algae that balances sugar; bilberry for the eyes; chromium; alpha lipoic acid; biotin; fenugreek. Taking gymnema sylvestre before meals helps to repair damage to the pancreas and liver. Ester C, grape seed extract, and evening primrose oil are also helpful in preventing side effects.
Of course, you may not need all of these, but begin to check them out and use those that seem to work for you. Please take your diabetes very seriously. There are many side effects that can be controlled but, most importantly, watching your diet is essential!
